Holiday Club Saariselkä renovated – spa hotel meets demand for high-quality accommodation

Holiday Club Saariselkä has been renovated to better meet the ever-increasing demand of Lapland travel. There is an immediate need for high-quality accommodation capacity in the region; in the first part of the year, travel in Saariselkä increased by 27.5% from last year.

The extensive renovations of Holiday Club Saariselkä are almost complete, and the stunning new resort will welcome guests for the autumn and winter season with a new and modern look. By Christmas, 27 luxurious new Villas flats will also be completed in Saariselkä, providing an excellent addition to its existing capacity of 11 Villas flats. With the new Villas, Holiday Club can offer a total of 139 hotel rooms and 132 holiday homes in Saariselkä.

“By developing the resort, we want to ensure that we meet the increasing demand in the area and the wishes of consumers. Lapland travel is growing in double figures, and certainly not all visitors want to stay in cabins. There is also a significant need in the Saariselkä area for high-quality hotel accommodation and activities for the whole family. Our Villas flats are a great option for those who want to enjoy peace and privacy yet stay close to various services and activities,” says Holiday Club Service Business Director Marko Hiltunen.

The facilities of Holiday Club Saariselkä were extensively remodelled. The spa hotel’s reception and lobby with its bar as well as Restaurant Revontuli, which serves breakfast, lunch and dinner buffet, all received a modern look with a strong Lapland atmosphere. The dressing rooms and washrooms, saunas and light fixtures of the spa were also refurbished. The first hotel rooms, renovated for maximum ambiance, also await holiday-makers. In future, an R kiosk will serve all Saariselkä residents and visitors next to the lobby. The new look of Holiday Club Saariselkä has been created by Jaakko Puro, Finland’s leading interior designer specialised in hotel, restaurant and business premise design.

Excellent prospects for winter season

The prospects for the autumn and winter in the northern resorts are excellent.

“The Christmas season is practically sold out already from the end of November to the beginning of January. The season has also been extended on both ends, and the autumn colour weeks and Northern Lights holidays have become significantly more popular,” says Hiltunen.

“So far this year, travel in Saariselkä has increased by a staggering 27.5% from last year, and the prospects for the rest of the year are also excellent,” says Tarja Manninen, Director of Marketing at Inari-Saariselkä Tourism Ltd.

“Saariselkä is the most international travel destination in Lapland, and tourist flows for the winter season are expected from Great Britain, the Netherlands, Germany and Asian countries, in particular.

After a busy summer season

The past summer was a busy one in terms of travel. The season of Holiday Club Resorts Oy was coloured by Finnish consumers’ growing faith in the economy, growing numbers of foreign travellers, return of Russian tourists and the ever-increasing appeal of Northern Finland.

In the summer, the number of foreign customers at Holiday Club Saariselkä increased by 8% from the previous year. The number of foreign visitors is also greatly increasing at the Holiday Club resorts in Kuusamo and Salla.

“Foreign visitors have begun to see Northern Finland as an attractive destination all year round. This summer, the share of international guests at Saariselkä grew to over 40%. Looking at the whole year, more than half of the guests, 54%, are foreign,” says Hiltunen.

Other resorts also broke visitor records in the summer season. For example, Holiday Club’s largest resort Holiday Club Saimaa, which is also known as the largest travel project of the Nordic countries with its nearly 2,000 beds, reached a record-breaking capacity utilisation rate of 94% in the summer. In Turku, customers found the new suites at Spa Hotel Caribia, the most luxurious ones in the city, which were completed before Midsummer, and the resort enjoyed a utilisation rate of nearly 90%.
